A primeira vez que li esse livro foi em 2000. Não, 2001. Era a época em que "indie" deixava de ser piada das internas, pelo menos no Brasil e começava a virar essa coisa ao ponto que, nesses dias, uma dessas revistas tinha "como pegar uma indie" entre as chamadas de capa. Não lembro se era a VIP ou a Sexy.

Aí, junto com a exposição ao mundo ("quando você os ouve no programa do John Peel na Radio 1 à noite, esses discos moviam-se pelas sombras e você suspeitava que eles estariam confortáveis ou até invisíveis à luz do dia", tá lá na introdução do livro), vem o processo natural: tipificação, estereotipificação e ridicularização. Dava para fazer piadinha com indie do mesmo jeito que com metaleiro.

Por isso que agora é difícil falar desse negócio de indie. Além de ser meio indefinido, tá meio na cara pra todo mundo, né? E é como se quisesse competir com o pop mainstream nos termos desse, o que não faz o menor sentido. A única coisa em comum é, nos melhores momentos, aquela busca linda pela perfeição. Sempre achei que a arte, no seu melhor, mostra o homem buscando a transcendência não apenas APESAR dos defeitos e do seu lado instintivo e animal, mas também POR MEIO destes.

E é por isso que ainda acho que, quando ouvir a canção pop perfeita, a guitarra vai estar meio desafinada. Mas não por querer.
